The French Gothic church of St Patrick’s (opened in 1876) was designed by J.J.McCarthy, one of the leading architects in Ireland at the time.  The fully illustrated talk will begin with the purchase of land in 1799, continue with the building of the first church on the site, follow on with the planning, building and fund raising for the present church and conclude with the refurbishment in 2007-09.  Many of the photographs will highlight the expertise and craftsmanship of the workmen who helped to build a beautiful church, both inside and out, and greatly admired by locals and many visitors to the town.
